Jim Rivait

Vice-President, Alberta and The North

Prior to joining IBC in 2001, Mr. Rivait spent most of his career with the Government of Alberta. Over the course of 17 years, he served in a number of policy, planning and management positions, mostly in the natural resources and environmental areas. As well, Mr. Rivait served as executive assistant to two cabinet ministers, giving him a unique blend of experience as public service and political staff.

In the years since leaving the Alberta government, Mr. Rivait was government relations coordinator for the Alberta School Boards Association, director of government relations for the University of Alberta, government relations advisor for Grant MacEwan College, and on retainer for a number of organizations and companies in a government relations capacity. A well-respected government relations specialist, Mr. Rivait has presented to numerous groups and associations across Alberta, and currently teaches government relations seminar series in the Public Relations Program at Grant MacEwan College.

An advocate of lifelong learning, Mr. Rivait has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from McGill University, a Public Administration Certificate and a Master of Arts in Political Science both from the University of Alberta.

Mr. Rivait is active in the community, and has held board positions with many organizations, including the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, Edmonton Festival Ballet, Edmonton School of Ballet Society, Edmonton Mill Woods Little League Baseball, Capital City Gymnastics and Kinsmen Sports Park Management Committee.
