IBC Advisory Model Policy and Endorsement Wordings

Policy wordings (often referred to as "Forms," "Insurance Forms" or "Policy Forms") are developed by technical committees comprised principally of representatives from member insurance companies. Although policy wordings are intended as industry "benchmarks," their use, in whole or in part, is entirely at the discretion of each company. The wordings and formats of each insurance company's policies will be appropriate to the company's specific requirements. Policy wordings are the basis of the insurance coverage contract between the insured (consumer) and the insurer.

NOTE: Policy wordings should not be confused with claims forms.

Each series of wordings is available in English and French to both IBC members and non-members. (Members and associate members benefit from reduced prices.) Authorized members can download PDF versions of policy wordings and updates from Infosource, IBC’s secure website, at https://infosource.ibc.ca. Wordings are also available in MS Word. Bulk supplies may be obtained from commercial printers specializing in insurance documents.
