Installation of After-market Systems: Making Sure It’s Done Right

The installation process is also an integral part of the effectiveness of an immobilizer. An improperly installed immobilizer seriously undermines the theft deterrent value of this otherwise very effective device.

IBC helped develop an Installation Protocol, known as ULC/ORD 275.1, as a companion document to ULC-S338-98 that governs installation practices for IBC-approved after-market systems.

The Installation Protocol is intended to ensure the highest quality of installation of approved theft deterrent systems. It offers a clear set of recommended practices for facilities handling the installation of these devices and ensures that the installed systems meet the requirements of ULC-S338-98.

The Installation Protocol covers installation facility requirements such as tools and equipment, training and selection of personnel, documentation and installation practices. Copies of the Installation Protocol can be purchased from the Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) at www.ulc.ca.
