Safety Equipment

Not All Cars are Created Equal

Many car manufacturers now offer safety features as standard or optional equipment on their cars. These features include:

  • air bags
  • anti-lock braking systems (ABS)
  • anti-theft devices

This equipment can make a big difference in terms of your personal safety and security.

Shopping for a car?

IBC has developed a handy guide to vehicles sold in Canada, which tells you, at a glance, whether the car you are considering buying comes with this valuable equipment or whether it is optional.*

If you are shopping for a new or used car, click on a model year below to see a listing of safety and anti-theft features for cars made in that year. Pay particular attention to whether anti-theft systems meet the National Standard of Canada for Automobile Theft Deterrent Systems, indicated by the lock symbol:

Model years:

2009 2008 2007 2006 2005
2004 2003 2002 2001 2000

*Equipment availability, especially for the current model year, is subject to change without IBC's knowledge. Always verify equipment with your dealer or the person selling the car.
