Insurers Committed to Communities

Most Canadians don’t think about insurance until it’s time to make a claim. When that time comes, they learn very quickly what a critical role insurance plays during the worst of times. What most people don’t realize, however, is that they also benefit from insurance companies in the best of times.

Insurance companies in Canada commit millions of dollars every year to community groups and other charities across the country. In addition to direct funding, companies often give employees paid time off to volunteer.

Four regionally tailored reports, entitled “Insurance People Care: Celebrating the contributions of Canada’s home, car and business insurers to community groups and charities,” highlight the important role that insurers play every day in the lives of Canadians, in communities large and small, where insurers do business. Many of the insurance companies surveyed for the reports meet Imagine Canada’s standard of contributing 1% of pre-tax profit to charity.

These reports do not contain total amounts given, nor do they name contributing insurers. Member insurance companies unanimously requested that their names and the amounts given not be made public and, instead, asked that attention be focused on the contributions of the industry as a whole.
